DESCRIPTION OF COURSE:
The concepts included in this program are innovative and revolutionary in the approach to teaching law and policy to law enforcement personnel. This program focuses on principles and concepts of civil liability and allegations of police misconduct related to civil rights litigation in federal and state court.
Participants will receive an update on precedent setting cases and applicable legal standards. The discussion will focus on trends in use of force litigation, issues of quality and quantity of training, supervisory concerns, BWCs, media related issues, high-profile circumstances and other topical concerns for law enforcement personnel and agencies.
The program also includes risk-management action plan items and other novel training concepts such as: the Constitutional Law Crate, the Use of Force Equation, establishing a Custody and Care Timeline for potential ICDs and ARDs scenarios; and the CRISIS Communications Crate.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
The purpose of this program is to provide an overview of the agency and individual liability focusing on state tort
actions and Section 1983 litigation in federal and state court. Program will include precedential cases and applicable standards relating to those topics and stimulate discussion concerning same.
